FIGHT FOR YOUR BEANS

1 Sam 23:11-12
And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils (BEANS). Then the people fled from the Philistines. But he stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. And the LORD brought about a great victory.

Our enemy
We have enemy more dangerous than philistines, more serious, destructive Purpose = steal, kill, destroy - not red with fork on shoulder, whispering bad things Satan and kingdom of darkness

1 Peter 5:8 roaring lion - not hurt but DEVOUR, destroy
When lion gets old, can’t chase and pounce - to capture prey - hide in waiting, roar with intensity can shake ground and prey is paralyzed by fear, lion walks over ever so slowly and devour prey
Not the BITE but the SOUND
What sound has the enemy let out against you that has paralyzed you with fear?

Lessons from Shammah”
1. SHAMMAH REALIZED THE REAL ENEMY

2. Shammah means "desertion!" This man's father was named "Agee” - flee. SHAMMAH DIDN’T SUCCUMB TO (WHAT HE WAS CALLED, OR inheritance, what he had or didn’t, WEAKNESS declared over him)

3. HE DIDN’T FOLLOW THE MAJORITY.
Exodus 23:2
“You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong.”

4. FOCUS: You know why Israelites were in the field - must have been harvest time
1.
WHY DID THIS MIGHTY WARRIOR FIGHT FOR HIS BEANS? 2 REASONS
1. Because that patch of beans was part of the covenant inheritance that God promised to Israel, Shammah thought it righteous to refuse surrendering this ground to the enemy.

2. Any territory surrendered to the Enemy becomes his foothold for the next assault. Give the devil a foothold and it will become his stronghold.
Enemy wasn’t going to stop at the lentils - would have moved on to other crops That bean-patch you quit fighting for becomes his base camp for planning his next invasion
The Enemy is not necessarily fascinated with your beans, but he’ll take it in order to eventually own your gold.

Mark 4
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”

37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Mark 5
5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.[b] 2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. 6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.
7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?

10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
Pigs - drowned.

Today going to stand against the sound or roar that’s paralyzing you As we fight God is going to bring about great victory.

1. Forgive person you’ve been fighting - focus on real enemy
2. Lay aside our past; what didn’t have or have, any name that bound us: worthless stupid poor failure - that. Our family situation has dictated to us
3. Make choice not going to run away from your beanfield - your decision for purity, your marriage
4. What small surrenders have you made. Repent and claim it back
5. Remind God of his promises of the harvest. Where harvest field turned to battlefield
6. Stand against all works of darkness - bind and rebuke, cancel every assignment
7. Declare God will bring great victory
